The Deep Sea Diver

That’s the trouble you see...
Life is full of people
But people need
Birthday balloons and bubbles
And deep sea divers every day
Those bubbles…
The tiny quirks
The tiniest pockets of life
The deep sea diver
Searching deeper
to the essence.
That’s the trouble you see
Life is full of people
But people need Birthday balloons
And bubbles and
Deep sea divers every day
Like it were food
But they don’t get it
You see.
Aunt Nancy made grey balloon heads
less like an ache
And spitfires less a sting.
Like hearts were bathed in
Salt springs or bobbing about
In passionfruit soft drink.
Her agility was tiny
But perfectly formed
Bursts of love.
She was a "Deep Sea Diver"
In my grandmothers sun room-
a sick body, a true love.
That’s the trouble you see.
Life is full of people
But people need Deep Sea Divers
As if it were food.
And there’s not enough divers just yet.

  1. Beautiful poem. I didn't realise Nancy had an autoimmune disease? Was it athritis?
