Lemon

Lemon in the sky
You know when the sun's gone soft
And subtle… ready for twilight
All pastels and
warm mergers
Nothing to do with
Crunching numbers
Nothing to do with
Saving coins
Where the colour
blends into shades
Of one
Then another
Like bodies
Rolling
The softest
Spectrum.
Lemon
Like food
Like a glass jar
Filled with sweet and sour
Like a pie
Or a shirt
Or a skirt tinted
With buttercup smiles
And not so many whys.
Lemon like a song
Like a dance
Like a moment
In the middle of
A squeeze
Like two hands
In a hold
Like a memory
Like the colour
Of morning
Today.

Westerfolds

Went back to the start
Where our bikes made a print
Over fresh tar
And our squealing delight
Was skating down hill
In the flush of true sight.
Went back to the place
Where seeds became saplings
Became spindly reaching frisky arms
Became solid beauty
Loyal to life
Unsinkable
With a wonderful
Wooded twisty
Tangled hello
Beneath…
to the good soil
our earthen soul.
Went back to the start
To remember
Sometimes the turtle
With a clock
Is marvellous …
Not everything comes
Right now.
A flash of fast reward
Is not the answer
Immediacy
Will never
Replace
Such gorgeous
Waiting.
Not everything
Or everyone is
Ripe at first
Or ready
Til’ later.
Went back to the start
And a mighty tree
Enveloped the day
With
Deep
Thanks
Smiling skywards
In her
Majesty.

The Freedom Kite

Thank you to the women
The ones who held our hand
The one who came before
The dark, on supple, solid sand.
Thank you to those teachers
My mothers and our light
The moments when we
Fought for us
To fly a freedom kite.
Thank you for the little ones
The girl who said to me
I like the way she wears for us
A flower with our tea
Thank you to the wise owls
Of silver haired reprise
That go and go
And won’t give in
To sick and sullen lies.
Thank you to the middle ground
The halfway points and on
For sisterhood is here to stay
From now and to beyond.
So fly your freedom kites
For Love
For Us and We and Be
And there forever more
We glide from river to the sea.

The Good Men

“Nowhere to sit? You can sit with me, you’re sitting with me right?  We were always sitting together, it’s ok. You’re ok, right, with a little kiss on the top of the head? Don’t be nervous, you’ll be ok. You can do it. I won’t let you fall, I promise. Like the Sun regardless she was there. I’ll come to your show, where can I get tickets? Break a leg. You’re an amazing mother. I think I can, I think I can. Go out there and get em. You were the best person for the job. Can I convince you to stay, because you have potential. Don’t let them get you down. I love you. I am lucky to have you. Thank You. I’ve chosen this color because it reminds me of you. I think I can, I think I Can. I’m sorry I let you down. I think I can, I think I can. Like the sun regardless. The stars, they shine for you. You can sit with me. I saw you in a crowded space. You’re a beautiful person. I think I can, I think I can. I KNOW YOU CAN.”

Sitting on the Fence

You don’t need to be a man for me. You don’t need to be a woman. You can be either or both or whatever you feel on any particular day. You don’t need to be a hero. You don’t need to have a lot of money. You don’t need to look like somebody else. You don’t need to have a million friends or followers. You don’t need to make the most expensive food so long as people enjoy it. You don’t have to dress up for me unless you want to, even if I am or I’m not on any particular day. You don’t need to sit on the fence unless you want to. You only need to dream and try and do the best you can. You don’t need to put on a show that isn’t really true. You don’t need to be the smartest or the coolest kitty cat in town. I’m not afraid of the real you. The real you is amazing with room for improvement.
