The Bowline

There’s many ways to build a house
There’s many ways to try
There’s many ways to shelter hope
There’s many ways to cry.

There’s many ways to tie a knot
There’s many ways to try
There’s many ways to fasten love
There’s many ways to fly.

To windows tied the sails she did
With knots that need not break
To memories came her carpenters
To keep afloat loves make.
To floors she bought the circus cheer
When stormy rides might call,
All fun of the fair, all impish dare
Wrapped in a true love trawl.
To beams she painted daybreak
To soil she seeded smiles,
To dreams she shaped the dragon heart,
To strange she called the wild.

There’s many ways to fall
There’s many ways to sail
There’s many ways to ache
And mend
There’s many ways to tall.
You might not own a palace
know hammers two by two...
But sailor hearts are builders yet
Afloat in oceans blue.
